With the Vienna Philharmonic in Vienna and New York

This week, Daniel Barenboim is rehearsing with the Vienna Philharmonic for concerts largely based around works by Beethoven and Schönberg, with additional works by Pierre Boulez, Webern, Mahler, and Wagner. The programs include some of the major Schönberg orchestral works such as the Five Pieces, op. 16, and the Variations, op. 31, as well as Beethoven’s Fifth and Sixth Symphonies. Barenboim’s engagement with the Vienna Philharmonic begins with two subscription concerts in the Musikverein on January 9th and 10th and continues in Carnegie Hall with concerts on January 15th, 16th, and 17th.
