Shostakovich with the Staatskapelle Berlin

On October 7th and 8th, in the Philharmonie and Konzerthaus Berlin respectively, Daniel Barenboim will lead the Staatskapelle Berlin in an all-Shostakovich program. Gidon Kremer will perform the Violin Concerto No. 2 in C-sharp Minor (1967). Alexander Vinogradov and the chorus of the German State Opera join the orchestra to perform the Symphony No. 13, a work based on Yevgeny Yevtushenko's poem Baby Yar. The Symphony was banned after its first performance due to the subject of Yevtushenko's poem: the Nazi massacre of Ukrainian Jews.
