On Tour with the Staatskapelle in Granada

Barenboim returns to Granada with the Staatskapelle in mid-July to perform three concerts in the Palace of Carlos V. This coliseum-like open-air venue is located on the premises of the historical Alhambra. Due to the summer heat, concerts begin at 10:30 PM.

The first of this year’s programs, which takes place on July 10th, includes a rarely performed Mendelssohn work in celebration of the composer’s 200th birthday: the Overture to Ruy Blas. Barenboim will perform and conduct Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto, and the program also includes Mahler’s Adagio from the unfinished Tenth Symphony.

On the following evening, July 11th, Barenboim and the Staatskapelle will celebrate the anniversary of a composer exactly half as old as Mendelssohn but still very much alive and as prolific as ever: Elliott Carter, who turned 100 in December 2008. The program consists of Wagner's Prelude and Liebestod from the opera Tristan und Isolde and Carter’s epic Symphonia (1993-1996).

The July 12th concert program consists solely of Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony. For tickets and further information please visit or
