Metanoia Premiere at the Schiller Theater
On October 3rd, the Schiller Theater opens its doors to opera audiences for the first time as Barenboim leads the Staatskapelle and Staatsopernchor Berlin in a world premiere by Jens Joneleit, Metanoia. The opera was to have been directed by renowned director Christoph Schlingensief, who tragically passed away on August 21st after a protracted battle with lung cancer. Rather than seeking to replace an irreplaceable personality, Barenboim and his team at the Staatsoper have decided to perform the opera in a semi-staged version. The libretto consists of a text by Berliner playwright René Pollesch, as well as excerpts from Nietzsche's The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music.
