Five-concert “Barenboim Cycle” examines Schubert and Liszt

Collaborating with such esteemed artists as Christine Schäfer, Dorothea Röschmann and Thomas Quasthoff, this season Daniel Barenboim celebrates the dual anniversaries of Franz Liszt and Franz Schubert in a five-concert series at the Schiller Theater in Berlin titled the “Barenboim Cycle.” The cycle begins on October 7, when Barenboim joins bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff and soprano Dorothea Röschmann for a program of works by Liszt.  The series continues with a solo piano recital on October 15 focusing on the works of Schubert. For the third recital of the autumn, Barenboim joins Christine Schäfer for an afternoon of works for voice and piano by Liszt on October 30.  The series picks up again on February 19 with Barenboim playing the first of two springtime solo piano concerts featuring works by Schubert.  The final concert of the series, the second concert of the spring season featuring Schubert works for piano, takes place on June 26.
