FELIX MENDELSSOHN BARTHOLDY TURNS 200
On February 3rd, 200 years after Mendelssohn’s birth, Daniel Barenboim will lead the Staatskapelle Berlin in a concert of the composer’s works: his overture to “Ruy Blas” op. 95, the Violin Concerto in E minor (performed by Nikolaj Znaider), and the Fourth Symphony (the “Italian”). The Staatskapelle Berlin has a special relationship to this music because its predecessor, the Königliche Kapelle, performed the world premieres of some of Mendelssohn’s works under the baton of the composer himself. The bicentennial concert will take place in the Staatsoper Berlin.
