Cairo Concert

On Thursday, April 16th, Barenboim performed in Cairo for the first time in his over fifty years of concertizing. He played Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata and conducted the Cairo Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. He was introduced to the audience by Omar Sharif. It was Barenboim’s second visit ever to an Arab country, the first being Morocco. According to many, it was also the first time such a prominent Israeli musician appeared in Egypt. The performance will be broadcast over the coming days on various different international television channels, including BBC World and Germany’s ZDF.
