Barenboim leads the Staatskapelle Berlin in its Festival of Contemporary Music and in concerts in Spain

Following the Berlin Staatsoper’s annual "Staatsoper für Alle" concert in Berlin’s Bebelplatz, Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin turn their focus to 20th-century composers for the venerable orchestra’s Festival of Contemporary Music.  The two-concert series, taking place on July 1 and 3 at the Schiller Theater (the temporary home of the orchestra), presents music by Elliot Carter, Stravinsky, Schoenberg and Boulez. Sopranos Anna Prohaska and Christine Schäfer are the featured soloists in the respective programs.

After the Berlin performances, Barenboim and the Staatskapelle travel to Spain for three concerts of music by Mozart and Bruckner.  They play first in Santiago on July 7, then present two concerts in Granada, on July 8 and 9.
