Barenboim conducts Beethoven with WEDO at Berlin’s Waldbühne

On August 21 Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra will perform a special concert at Berlin’s famous outdoor amphitheater, the Waldbühne, as part of their “Beethoven for All” world tour.  For this concert in front of tens-of-thousands of people, the Argentinian-born Israeli conductor will lead the orchestra in Beethoven’s Eighth and Ninth symphonies.  The performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, which includes the famous "Ode an die Freude" (or “Ode to Joy”) celebrating brotherhood and the unity of all mankind, is sure to be especially poignant, since the orchestra and conductor will have just returned from performing the work in Imjingak near the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. The concert is sure to be musically satisfying as well: the soloists for the Ninth iinclude four of Germany’s greatest singers: Anja Harteros, Waltraud Meier, Peter Seiffert and René Pape.  Several free pairs of tickets to this concert will be given away on Barenboim’s  Facebook and Twitter, so be sure to connect with him on these pages.
