Barenboim conducts Beethoven with WEDO at Berlin’s famous Waldbühne

Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra continue their “Beethoven for All” world tour with a spectacular outdoor concert at Berlin’s renowned Waldbühne on August 21.  For this performance in front of tens-of-thousands of people, the Argentinian-born Israeli conductor will lead the orchestra in Beethoven’s Eighth and Ninth symphonies. The performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, which includes the famous "Ode an die Freude" (or “Ode to Joy”) celebrating brotherhood and the unity of all mankind, is sure to be especially poignant, since the orchestra and conductor have recently returned from performing the work in Imjingak near the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. The soloists for this piece include four of Germany’s greatest singers: Anna Samuil, Waltraud Meier, Peter Seiffert and René Pape.
