Barenboim and WEDO embark on Beethoven project, including tour and recording

This summer Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra embark on an ambitious project exploring the music of Beethoven, including a tour of Europe and Asia during which the orchestra and conductor will perform several complete cycles of the composer's nine symphonies.  Deutsche Grammophon will also be releasing a recording to coincide with the tour.

Barenboim and the WEDO begin their tour with concerts in the Spanish cities of Seville (July 31) and Madrid (August 1), followed by concerts in Beijing (August 5),  and Shanghai (August 7 & 8).  They then travel to Seoul, South Korean to perform a complete Beethoven symphony cycle (August 10 – 14).

Following their dates in Asia, Barenboim and the WEDO return to Europe for performances at two of Europe's most prestigious summer music festivals: the Lucerne Festival (August 18) and the Salzburg Festival (August 19).  Returning to Germany on August 21, they perform a special concert at Berlin's famous open-air Waldbühne and conclude their tour with a five-night run at the Cologne Philharmonie, during which they will perform another complete cycle of the Beethoven symphonies (August 23 – 28).
